The Amazing Prophecy of Jesus’ Crucifixion
Psalm 22
This Psalm has two clear parts,
(1) The PRAYER of the King Crucified, v.1-21
(2) The PRAISE of the King Crowned, v.22-31
- Consider twenty four specific prophetic fulfillments of Psalm 22 through the suffering of Christ:
- My God, My God why hast thou forsaken Me, v.1; Matt.27:46
- Despised of men, like a worm, v.6; Matt.26:67
- Laughed to scorn, v.7; Matt.27:29
- They shoot out the lip, v.7; Matt.27:39
- They shake the head, v.7; Matthew 27:39; Mark 15:29
- He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him, v.8; Matt.27:43
- Messiah would be born of a woman, v.9,10; Luke 1:35
- There was none to help, v.11; Matt.26:56
- He was surrounded by strong enemies, v.12; Matt.27:41
- They roared like lions against Jesus, v.13; Mark 15:29, 32
- I am poured out like water, v.14; John 19:28
- All my bones are out of joint, v.14
- My heart is like wax, it is melted in the midst of my bowels, v.14; John 19:34
- My strength is dried up like a potsherd, v.15; John 19:28
- My tongue cleaveth to my jaws, v.15; John 19:28
- Thou hast brought me into the dust of death, v.15; John 19:28
- They pierced my hands and my feet, v.16; John 20:25
- None of Jesus’ bones were broken, I may tell all my bones, v.17; John 19:31-37
- They stare upon me, v.17; Matt. 27:36
- They part my garments among them, v.18; John 19:23,24
- They cast lots upon my vesture, v.18; John 19:23,24.
- Deliver my soul from the sword…save me from the lion’s mouth, v.20,21; Luke 23:46
- In the midst of the church Jesus will give praise to His Father, v.22; Hebrews 2:12
- The Crucified Savior will satisfy the meek with His salvation, v.26; Matt.5:5
- All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee, v.27-29; Rev.7:9,10. The nations will be redeemed by Him, ruled by Him, and rejoice in Him!
