The First Day of Creation

October 6, 2016 Matthew Recker
  • It is a major assumption by many scientists that the earth is very old, over four billion years. However, Archbishop Usher formulated a date of 4004 BC as the date of creation. Dr. John Lightfoot formulated a similar date. Based on the Bible, the earth is no where as old as evolutionary scientists say that it is.

1.) God created matter and man with the appearance of age.

2.) Catastrophism (like the world-wide flood in Genesis 6-8) and not uniformitarianism best answers the many questions for the geologic mysteries.

  • Let’s consider the first day of creation, somewhere about 6-8 thousand years ago. We see our Triune God’s direct, supernatural, personal, active, and wise presence throughout creation.
  1. God’s Powerful Creation, “God Created” v.1:
  • God absolutely, instantaneously and supernaturally creates the entire universe:

          A. Time: “in the beginning”

          B. Space: “the heaven”

          C. Mass: “the earth”

  • NUCLEAR forces maintaining the integrity of matter were activated by the Father as the source of all things.

2. God’s Personal Interaction: “Spirit of God Moved,” v.2:

  • The earth was at this time;

A. Unformed: “without form”

B. Uninhabited: “void”

C. Unlit: “darkness was upon the face of the deep”

D. Unenergized: “And the Spirit of God moved…”

  • GRAVITATIONAL forces were set in motion by the Spirit when He brings energy to the static matter.

3. God’s Preliminary Communication: “God said … Light,” v.3-5

  • ELECTROMAGNETIC forces were activated by the Son who speaks light into the darkness. (Electromagnetic radiation is a form of energy that includes radio waves, microwaves, X-rays and gamma rays, as well as visible light.)
  • In these verses we can see the Triune God who is ONE essence but THREE distinct Persons. While all three Persons are involved in all parts of creation and continue to hold all things together, it is not wrong to see the three distinct Persons of the Godhead actively given glory by their work in the creative process. We do see The Father is the source of all things, The Holy Spirit is the energizer of all things, and The Son who is the Word of God and the Light of the world speak and create light.

A. God SPEAKS and LIGHT was: (v.3, 6, 9, 11, 14, 20, 24, 26, 28, 29.)

B. God SAW the Light and it was Good (v.10, 12, 18, 21, 25, 31).

C. God DIVIDED the Light from the dark

D. God CALLED the Light day

2 Corinthians 4:6; For God, who commandeth the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
