Genesis 1 is True and Real History

September 14, 2016 Matthew Recker

Genesis 1:1: “In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.”

1.) Genesis 1:1 Establishes the FOUNDATIONAL TRUTH of Scripture:

  • The ALL WISE, ALL POWERFUL, Eternal God in the past created, suddenly and supernaturally, instantaneously and out of nothing (ex nihilo), without pre-existing material the universe as it is now in six solar days and rested on the seventh day (Hebrews 11:3; Romans 1:20).

2.) Genesis 1:1 Answers the FOUNDATIONAL QUESTION of Scripture: Where did everything come from?

  1. Time: In the beginning
  2. Space: Heaven
  3. Matter: Earth
  • There is no chance we are here by chance. All things have come from God.
  • There is nothing in this chapter or anywhere in the Bible that describes anything evolutionary. To impose evolution on this chapter, one must first be intimidated by culture or academia; then one will have to either deny the clear, historical, and unmistakable reading of the text and/or one would have to reclassify the account as allegory, myth, legend, poetry, or exalted prose narrative. This is done to accommodate the Bible to unsaved evolutionists and to a theory that has no basis in science.
  • Let’s look at the Bible itself and see it interacts with Genesis 1:
  1. The Creation record is always mentioned as a unique event that took place at a particular moment in the past but is now finished.
  2. The Creation record in Genesis 1-3 is considered throughout the Old and New Testaments as literally true, historical and of surpassing importance, bringing glory to God and constraining us to worship Him (Ps.19:1; Is.43:7; Rev.4:11)
  3. The Creation record is never referred to by any Biblical author as something hard to swallow or as difficult to believe but as foundational to truth (Acts 14:15; Acts 17:24).
  • Consider how creation mentioned in every part of the Biblical record as real history:

1. In the Books of LAW: Deut. 4:32: For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man upon the earth, and ask from the one side of heaven unto the other, whether there hath been any such thing as this great thing is, or hath been heart like it?

2. In the Books of HISTORY: Nehemiah 9:6: Thou, even Thou, art LORD alone: Thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and Thou preserves them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth Thee.

God created all things and finished His creation and now preserves all things by the word of His power.

3. In the Books of POETRY: Psalm 33:6,9; By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. For He spake, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.

God said it, and “it was so” as the Genesis record clearly demonstrates.

(Also Psalm 148:5; Proverbs 30:4)

4. In the Books of PROPHECY: Jeremiah 10:12; He hath made the earth by His power, He hath established the world by His wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by His discretion. (See also Isaiah 40:21-31; Isaiah 42:5; Isaiah 45:5-9: Malachi 2:10.)

5. Books of NEW TESTAMENT:

A. Gen. 1-11 is quoted or alluded to over 100 times in the NT.

B. Every one of the chapters of Genesis 1-11 is alluded to in the NT.

C. Every NT author refers somewhere to Gen. 1-11.

D. Jesus Himself referred to Gen. 1-11 including specific references to the first seven chapters, and in not one instance does JESUS view Gen. 1-11 as myth or legend.

E. There is absolutely no evidence that the NT writers viewed Genesis 1-11 as myth or allegory.

(See Walter T. Brown’s chart of NT references to Genesis 1-11 at http://www.creationscience.com/onlinebook/FAQ414.html)

  • NT writers affirm an instantaneous creation, (ex nihilo, Heb.11:3), that God finished His creation, Col.1:16.
  • Man being made in the image of God, Matthew 19:4,5, 1 Cor. 11:7.
  • One man Adam was created and then Eve after the man (1 Cor.11:8; 1 Timothy 2:13).
  • Marriage as between a man and a woman, Ephesians 5:22-33.
  • The reality of Satan as a real person, 2 Cor.11:3.
  • The fall of man into sin, Romans 5:12-21.
  • The flood of Noah in specific terms and that his family alone survived, Luke 17:26-27; Hebrews 11:7; 1 Peter 3:20.

The CREATOR has become the REDEEMER!

  • If you deny creation, you can establish your own morals and demand your rights.
  • If you deny Adam, you will deny Christ.
  • If you deny the creation, you will deny the new creation.

Trust in Jesus Christ the Creator and Redeemer to save you from your sins!
