Bible Reasons ABORTION is Sinful

Abortion is the willful termination of a pregnancy after conception. Based on God’s Word and real science, abortion is murder. Proverbs 6:16; These six things doth the LORD hate:… hands that shed innocent blood.

Since the ROE vs. WADE ruling in 1973, there have been about 60 million abortions. In contrast, about 1.35 million have died in all the wars of American history beginning with the Revolutionary War.

The “Dobbs decision” is an almost miraculous answer to prayer. It stops the stain of legally sanctioned abortion by federal mandate. While this decision overturns Roe V. Wade, it does not automatically make abortion illegal nationwide. Rather, it returns the question of abortion to each state, for the people and their elected representatives to decide this important issue.

Here are Bible ten reasons abortion is grievously sinful:

1. Children are a gift from God.

Psalm 127:3; Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

2. Life begins at conception.

Psalm 51:5; Behold, I was shaken in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me. (Also Psalm 113:9)

3. The baby in the womb in Scripture is called a child.

Luke 1:41,44: The babe leaped in her womb: This powerful phrase speaks of John the Baptist in his mother Elizabeth. (Luke 2:12,16; 2 Timothy 3:15)

4. The baby grows in the womb.

  • Psalm 139:13-18: God mades us personally (v.13), awesomely (v. 14), wonderfully, marvelously  and skillfully (v.15-18) as we grow in the womb. Psalm 139 is God’s divine sonogram of our development in what is to be a safe place: our mother’s womb.

5. Bible characters were set apart from the womb.

  • Jeremiah 1:5; Judges 13:3-5 (Samson); Luke 1:15 (John the Baptist); Paul (Gal.1:15).
  • Jeremiah was known by God, Samson prophesied by God, John empowered by God, and Paul called by God from the womb.

6. The Mosaic Law protected the baby’s life in the womb, Exodus 21:22.

7. Abortion is the “shedding innocent blood.”

  • The phrase “innocent blood” occurs about 22 times in the Bible. Deut.19:10; 19:13; 21:8, 9; 1 Samuel 19:5; 2 Kings 21:16; 24:4; Psalm 94:21; 106:38; Proverbs 6:17; Isaiah 59:7; Jeremiah 7:6; 22:3; 22:17; Joel 3:19; Matthew 27:24. Some of these verses refer to the killing of babies in infant sacrifice, who are the most innocent of all humans.

8. God places high priority on the protection, provision, and vindication of the weakest, the most helpless and most victimized members of the community.

9. Abortion harms women.

  • Abortion can have incredibly dangerous effects on women emotionally, relationally, mentally, spiritually, and physically. It can increase the cause of cancer, the chance of future miscarriages, depression, and also result in the loss of fertility.

10. Abortion avoids responsibility. Galatians 6:7,8.

  • Abortion is sometimes used as an easy cover-up for a one-night stand or a solution to a relationship gone bad. Or, a woman is often pressured by her boyfriend, family friends, and society to abort a baby.

Friends, saving faith in Jesus Christ brings forgiveness of sins and cleansing of conscience. By His loving grace, Jesus can give anyone who has had an abortion, or committed any grievous sin, eternal life and abundant peace.
