4 Cents and 8 K

May 26, 2016 Matthew Recker

I have come to know a Christian couple over Facebook, and they are excited to share in giving toward our Project Rehoboth.  They have even encouraged many of their friends whom I have never met to give to our church building fund, and some have.  The man drives a truck and travels with his wife, so at a particular gas station, his wife thought she would use her time to find pennies to give to our Project Rehoboth Building Fund.  She told her interesting and humorous story recently on a Facebook post she made to my page. (1) I could never despise the day of small things (Zechariah 4:10), and I praise God for 4 cents.

This week a man in our church handed a check to my wife for our Project Rehoboth.  Debbie passed the check to me and when I looked I almost hit the floor when I saw it was for $8,000.00.  Praise God!  That was one of the biggest one time gifts I can ever remember receiving for our building fund, and I praise God for the giving heart of this brother of Heritage!

These gifts are each answers to prayer from our Awesome Prayer Answering God.  He is clearly touching the hearts of His people to give and sacrifice for the work of the Gospel through Heritage Baptist Church in Manhattan.  As the zeal of the Corinthians moved the Macedonian believers to give, I pray the gift of 4 cents and 8 k will “provoke very many” to give a gift of any size to our Project Rehoboth (2 Corinthians 9:2).  I praise God for His people, and we do not despise the day of small things as we see God bringing in the funds, one penny and one check at a time!

May the Lord touch many hearts like this!

  1. Here is Samantha’s Story:

Let me tell you a story of 4 pennies..

Ben dropped me off at the truck stop to stretch my legs, so I wanted to use the time to look for change! I don’t usually find change at this specific stop, but all the same-I was determined to look! Right out the gate,in the crack in the pavement, sat the penny on the left! The more weather beaten they are-the longer (I’m convinced) that God left them there for me to find! I quickly put it in my pocket and headed through the front doors..
There laid a penny in front of the register island! Just as pretty as could be! I scooped it up and in the midst of my excitement, I flung it across the room and under the pre-packaged Icecream refrigerator! I almost walked away from it, thinking that I had ought not move it for a penny..but then I thought-“that’s Gods penny for #projectrehoboth, so I pulled out the refrigerator! The cashier asked me if she could help me and I politely explained that I’d lost my penny! When I went to fetch it-there sat another! 🙂
Yippee! God had planned to multiple that penny, but I had to step out by faith and work to get it out!  As happy as a lark, I started walking through the gas pumps and diesel lines..then over toward the semi parking..not a cent in sight!

I told myself..I can’t believe that there wouldn’t be one penny out here that God didn’t leave for me to find..

(Lo and behold I had thought too soon)

For there sat a penny in a spot I had walked right past!

Don’t ever miss out on a chance to be apart of Gods work..no matter how small your contribution may be!  Because little IS MUCH when God is in it 🙂
