The Heritage of Faith radio broadcast airs each Sunday night on WMCA 570 AM from 8:30-9:30 pm. Our program has been on for almost 20 years. It is a live call-in radio show that features a Bible message, great music, and listener phone calls. For these many years, our church has borne this expense, but with certain plans of our church we are asking listeners and friends to pray and partner with us so that our program can become “listener supported.”
In our 2017 church budget we are including our radio show to continue only through June, 2017. From now until then we are praying and asking God for His will regarding the future of this outreach. Sometime in May our church will make a final decision on whether to continue or cease our program, and a lot of this will depend on what kind of response we receive from our listeners and friends.
As I have shared this with some listeners, Dow wrote a note and said that he is willing to pray and also to give so that our radio program can continue. Dow lives in Staten Island but attended our Heritage Discipleship Institute and has visited our church. Most importantly, he has become a friend forged through the Heritage of Faith radio program. In his letter, he said that he was going to pray for God to raise up an “Army of Supporters” to help keep the Heritage of Faith going.
The Heritage of Faith program focuses on the faithful verse-by-verse teaching and preaching of the Word of God. For instance, we have done an entire “Through the Bible Series,” taking individual programs to share an overview of every book of the Bible. On another occasion I preached from Psalm 1 to Psalm 150. Presently I am going through the New Testament chapter by chapter! Each Sunday night we have two call screeners from our church who serve listeners who call. Some of these who call speak to me live on the radio while most call for prayer and Biblical encouragement. Each Sunday we sense that God uses our program to build up listeners in the faith of Jesus Christ.
We are praying now for God to raise up a “20-20 Army of Supporters to keep our radio program on the air, according to His will. While Dow has inspired the phrase “army of supporters,” the 20-20 comes from Acts 20:20. In this verse Paul summarizes his ministry in the city of Ephesus: “And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have showed you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house.” This verse reminds me of the great potential and power of radio in that we can reach from “house to house” but also “car to car,” and “smart phone to smart phone.” (iHeart Radio @AM 570 The Mission) As Paul served the great city of Ephesus, we serve in the great city of New York!
